Creative Community Building

Creative placemaking... builds on local human, physical, and cultural assets to enhance the social and civic fabric. It builds on distinctive local character and story. It is a long-term, partnership-based strategy that results from a commitment to social equity and a meaningful life for its residents as well as an interesting experience for visitors and a stronger economic base for the area.

Cadence helps community stakeholders develop plans that draw on art and cultural assets in order to build a strong sense of place, deeper relationships, and shared economic opportunity.

Creative Community Building, by definition, is about groups and individuals working together to create, test, and act on strategic plans that leverage art and cultural assets.  Cadence provides supportive facilitation to ensure plans are grounded in and respectful of the diverse experiences, perspectives and needs of community members.

Since 2016, our founder, Tamara Gatchell, has worked with seven community teams on the development of arts and culture based strategies.  She presented at the National Consortium of Creative Placemaking leadership summit in 2018 to share how small scale testing can help community teams refine ideas and build momentum for their strategic work.

Cadence provides a range of Creative Community Building services including:  advisory for communities building strategies around arts and cultural assets, asset mapping workshops, and coaching to support community teams engaged in creative placemaking endeavours.
